Activities
Current Projects
Nutritional supplementation
programs:
In partnership with Church
World Service (CWS), the relief
and development arm of the National
Council of Churches of Christ
in the USA, GIANT is supporting
the Moringa Tree of Hope initiative.
This is a project to grow and
disperse Moringa trees, which
are fast growing and can be
used as a highly nutritional
food supplement, among other
uses. The Moringa project is
a prototype for the use of indigenous
plants to promote health and
healing in HIV positive populations.
A clinic trial of the benefits
of Moringa leaf powder in HIV
infection is currently in progress
in Ghana.
GIANT is also collaborating
on a project called "Operation
Heart to Heart" which involves
the development of a state-of-the-art
Infectious Disease/HIV Health
Center in Nigeria, with special
emphasis on prevention, care,
education and research. GIANT
is primarily providing support
in the nutritional therapy aspects
of this project.
Educational efforts,
participation and sponsorship
of scientific conferences:
GIANT has participated in several
medical conferences, such as
the African Health Ministers'
Conference on HIV and Malaria,
Atlanta, GA, April 2000; Meeting
of African Presidents in Nigeria,
April 2001; Annual Meetings
of the African Society for Free
Radical Research (in Mauritius,
July 2001 and Cape Town, South
Africa, Oct. 2002). GIANT is
also involved in education and
outreach for HIV positive populations
to raise awareness about the
importance of nutrition in the
management of HIV/AIDS.
Support of basic
and clinical scientific research
related to nutritional therapies
for AIDS:
In addition to the ongoing
clinic trial of Moringa leaf
powder to combat HIV associated
wasting, GIANT is sponsoring
several small clinical studies
of micronutrients such as selenium
and other antioxidants in Botswana
and Rwanda.
ECO Village
Enterprises (EVE Project)
The EVE plan presents a comprehensive
way of responding to the international
orphan crisis while helping people
with HIV/AIDS (as well as other disabled,
or disenfranchised individuals). EVE
will create jobs and offer educational
and healthcare services. In addition it
will be a unique global educational
forum, which will facilitate and enhance
intercultural relations, environmental
awareness, and a sense of belonging to
a global family.
Angola, Cameroon, Kenya, Nigeria,
Rwanda, Ghana, China, India,
Senegal, South Africa, Swaziland,
Tanzania, Brazil, Haiti, Uganda,

(Atlanta, Georgia).
We are building partnerships
with corporations and other
organizations to implement the
GIANT Multivitamin
Project (MVP), the ultimate
goal of which is to provide
multivitamin-mineral supplements
to all HIV infected individuals
who could otherwise not obtain
them.
